Jeff receives services through Hope Haven’s community access group day program, community access individual services program, and supported employment program. Jeff first came to Hope Haven in 2011. Over that period of time, he has made long-lasting friendships and gained new and meaningful experiences.
In his free time, Jeff enjoys completing jigsaw puzzles and making structural models, like airplanes and ships. This knack for problem-solving, building, and working with his hands made him the perfect candidate for employment at McCann Aerospace Machining.
In May 2016, Jeff became an employee at McCann Aerospace. After successfully completing the application process, safety quiz, and job training, Jeff began working on aluminum aircraft parts. Jeff learned how to use a deburring tool to remove unwanted material on aluminum parts. He now works in the packaging department where he heat-seals plastic sleeves that contain various airplane parts. In 2016, Jeff won the Hope Haven employee of the year award in his division.
On his days off, Jeff comes to Hope Haven’s day program where he volunteers. You can find him playing with dogs at the Clarke County animal shelter, delivering meals to seniors through Meals on Wheels, donating food to the Salvation Army, volunteering his time at Project Safe, or picking up litter at Sandy Creek. He loves serving the community and meeting new people while doing so. When he’s not busy helping others, he works on his personal goals of improving his health and reading skills; Jeff walks laps for exercise and reads aloud to his peers at Hope Haven.
You can find success in Jeff’s employment, amount of community service, and outreach he is involved in, and the improvement he has made in his personal goals. However, the true success can be found in Jeff’s increased sense of self-fulfillment and self-esteem. His job at McCann and helping out others has been incredibly rewarding to him. Jeff has also been a source of motivation for his peers at Hope Haven, who hope to one day attain a job in the community like him. At McCann, Hope Haven, and the community, he is outgoing and loves making new friends. He is truly a unique and wonderful individual.
